If it felt like the rain wouldn't quit, you're right. Four back-to-back storm systems hit Arizona, and meteorologists at the National Weather Service in Flagstaff say that made this the wettest fall in Flagstaff's history, with a little less than a month of the season left. A weather service meteorologist says the ground was already saturated by three previous storms, which made the flooding more intense.

Looking toward winter, forecasters say a strong El Niño could boost Flagstaff's snowfall and bring more flooding risks. Meteorologist Jeff Masters of Yale Climate Connections put it this way: "We've had super El Niños in the past, but this is a super duper El Niño."
