The Coconino Humane Association invites community support through its year-round Pay it Forward program — letting donors lower adoption fees so more local pets find homes this holiday season, while offering low-cost spay and neuter services and a Feral Cat Program to help control pet populations.
🎓 Education
NAU graduate Sierra Rockey plans to pursue a double major in music and biology after graduation, drawing on her real experiences (working with sea lions and performing with the Wind Symphony) at NAU.
Her academic path shows her passion for science and art.
NAU hosted two fall commencement ceremonies on Friday, Dec.
12 at the Walkup Skydome.
🌲 Environment
The Grand Canyon rim-to-rim hike closed early after the Dragon Bravo Fire damaged the North Rim lodge and North Kaibab Trail.
Park officials will reassess the trail in March or April, and hikers fear the 24-mile route may remain closed for years.
🏛️ Government
Coconino County is set to receive a $68.7 million broadband upgrade as federal approval of Arizona’s BEAD plan could bring fast internet access to over 10,000 households.
The investment is expected to enhance connectivity locally.

NAZ Elite announced team selections for the 2026 World Athletics Cross Country Championships, as Kiptoo and Muhumed earn spots on Team USA — Adrian Wildschutt will represent South Africa.
