- ➤ NAU students and faculty developed cameras that launched last week on a NASA mission to Mars, a breakthrough project that took years to complete. Arizona Daily Sun
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kaibab National Forest announced that it will conduct prescribed fire pile burns on about 9,000 acres in the Williams and Tusayan Ranger Districts this winter. The burns are meant to reduce flammable wood debris — some areas may be closed to the public if weather conditions make burning unsafe. KAFF
- ➤ Coconino National Forest, National Forest Foundation and Southwest Fire and Fuels will work on a 20-acre forest restoration project in Flagstaff that protects a historic Navajo logging camp — active around 1924 and 1925 — by thinning immature pine trees to lower fire risk and offer free wood to Indigenous communities. - ➤ The Kaibab National Forest is offering Christmas tree permits online for the upcoming holiday season—visitors can apply through the forest’s website—and the permits will allow safe, regulated tree picking in designated areas. Arizona Daily Sun
