  • A cat named Manny survived six weeks missing after the Dragon Bravo Fire forced owner Lisa Frazee to evacuate her work location at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Frazee found Manny hiding under a trailer and said he has recovered as she plans to write a children’s book about his adventure.  AZ Family

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A sixth grader at FALA in Coconino County won one of 20 awards in the AZ529 statewide essay contest.  Arizona Daily Sun
  • The Haven Walker Music Scholarship Fund has opened applications for Flagstaff high school musicians — giving talented students a chance to get help with their music studies.  Arizona Daily Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Flagstaff launched the Wildfire Resilient Homes Initiative to help homeowners, renters, and property managers lower wildfire risk with free home assessments, resilience kits, and mitigation grants up to $600—officials say the program will let residents take immediate action to protect their properties in a fire-adapted ponderosa pine forest area and can be scheduled online or by calling 928 326-4419.  Flagscanner
