COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Coconino County is running a food drive to help families hurt by a SNAP disruption; people can drop off items through November 7 at several local spots (county officials provided the list).  Arizona Daily Sun

CULTURE NEWS

  • Flagstaff now has a new retro arcade called Goobabs Retro Arcade that offers about 30 vintage game options for late-night fun—giving locals a nostalgic way to unwind.  Arizona Daily Sun

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Northern Arizona Center for Nonprofit Entrepreneurship at NAU is expanding its community education offerings by developing three noncredit certification programs in executive leadership, board development and young professionals. The center will launch these programs in the future to build nonprofit skills locally.  Arizona Daily Sun

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Park Service said that repairs and trail work are complete at Phantom Ranch and Bright Angel Campground and they will reopen for overnight access on Saturday, Nov 1 so hikers can also use the lower section of the South Kaibab Trail from Tipoff to Phantom Ranch. Water pumping will be interrupted from Nov 4 to Nov 18 due to the Transcanyon Waterline Replacement Project—water at the Resthouses will not return until spring.  KAFF
  • Two prescribed burns are planned to begin next week in Coconino County and may cause moderate smoke impacting Flagstaff. The Crusher burn will start Monday, November 3, clearing 65 acres along both sides of State Route 89A near Kachina Village — the Rogers Lake burn will begin Tuesday on 150 acres near Rogers Lake and could push smoke toward Interstate 40.  KAFF
