Good morning, Flagstaff. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 16th of October.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Navajo Nation Commission on Emergency Management declared a localized state of emergency for the Birdsprings and Dennehotso Chapters on Oct. 14 after heavy rainfall from Hurricane Priscilla—Hurricane Raymond and monsoon storms caused floods that affected 28 families in Birdsprings and nine in Dennehotso. The declaration, signed by President Buu Nygren, lets the chapters use emergency funds for shelter, food, water and other urgent needs and will remain in effect for 90 days.  KAFF
  • The National Park Service awarded a $585,000 grant to the Arizona State Historic Preservation Office to boost economic growth for rural businesses along Route 66. The office will use the funds for its subgrant program so that motels, gas stations, and civic buildings—covering a 385-mile corridor—can receive up to $100,000 in funding, with details available in December.  KAFF
