CULTURE NEWS

  • NAU will host a screening of 'The Return of Navajo Boy' on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 1 p.m. after a noon reception—panels on uranium mining's impact will follow.  Arizona Daily Sun

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Rep. Gosar introduced two bills that would remove protections on over 1 million acres of Arizona land—including the Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni-Ancestral Footprints national monument established in 2023 to safeguard tribal lands near the Grand Canyon—and cancel protections for the Ironwood Forest National Monument near Tucson, a move that could boost energy development while risking environmental harm. The proposals have raised concerns among conservationists and tribal groups about the long-term impact on sacred land and natural resources.  AZ Family

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • North Highway 89 between North Country Club Drive and Old Route 66 in Flagstaff will have lane closures from Monday, Sept. 29 to Wednesday, Oct. 1 from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. as the city removes overlay and marks pavement under its annual Road Repair and Street Safety program—further work on West Stevanna Way and North Verde Street will lead to additional closures in October.  KAFF
  • The city will close lanes on N Highway 89 between N Country Club Dr and old Rte 66 for overlay removal and pavement marking from September 29 to October 1 from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.—drivers should expect delays. The Road Repair and Street Safety program will also complete asphalt installation and plan partial closures on other streets in October.  City of Flagstaff
