ACCIDENTS NEWS

CRIME NEWS

  • Gibson Benally’s daughter filed a civil lawsuit against Coconino County jail that narrowed after additional defendants were dismissed—she continues to seek accountability for the inmate’s death.  Arizona Daily Sun
  • On September 2, Flagstaff police maintained a large presence at Walmart on Woodlands Village Boulevard during a routine incident—officials did not release additional details.  Flagscanner

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Flagstaff High School’s lockdown ended Tuesday morning after school officials received a report that an individual may have brought a weapon, though police found no threat and normal operations resumed. School officials continue to investigate the incident and will refine emergency procedures—Anonymous Alerts are available on student iPads for secure reporting.  KAFF

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Flagstaff Housing Authority will propose changes to the Section 8 plan today that add a local preference for Emergency Housing Voucher holders due to early funding cuts— and expand its service area to include Bellemont. Written comments are accepted until October 17— officials will review the changes on October 16 and again in November.  City of Flagstaff
  • On September 2, fire crews responded to a routine assignment at Elara Apartments on Sawmill—officials reported no injuries or further issues.  Flagscanner
  • Public hearings for Flagstaff Regional Land Use Plan 2045 will take place on Sept. 10 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Flagstaff Aquaplex, on Sept. 24 at City Hall, and on Oct. 9 at City Hall to gather resident feedback on changing zoning, housing, transportation, and environmental protections for the next 20 years. Coconino County will hold its Comprehensive Plan hearings on Sept. 24 virtually and on Nov. 18 at 219 E Cherry Avenue — both plans aim to guide local growth and preserve community character.  KAFF
