ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • This morning, Flagstaff Fire Department responded to a gas leak at the homeless shelter at 4185 E Huntington and evacuated the building—Unisource Gas quickly fixed the leak and returned operations to normal.  Flagscanner
  • Today at 3:58 p.m., Summit FD, Flagstaff FD, and CCSO responded to a serious accident on Townsend Winona Rd near Highway 89 where one driver sustained critical injuries—possibly from a hit and run.  Flagscanner

CRIME NEWS

  • At 1:02 p.m. today, deputies in Doney Park attempted a traffic stop when a driver with a felony warrant fled and dragged a deputy who was not seriously hurt, and a supervisor ended the chase when the suspect was seen in a wooded area near Huttun Ranch (his car is badly damaged) while K9 and helicopter units search (residents should avoid the area).  Flagscanner
  • Local law enforcement booked 24 individuals into Coconino County Jail on August 28th and 29th for a range of offenses including drug paraphernalia, DUI, domestic violence, aggravated crimes and sexual assault — the arrest log is public record provided by the sheriff’s office.  Flagscanner
  • Flagstaff Police arrested Tyler John Edmonds, 30, on Aug 28 for disorderly conduct with a weapon after he allegedly fired a gun near Baddies Food Joint—police used Flock Safety License Plate Reader technology and business surveillance video to locate his SUV and execute a search warrant—he now faces multiple charges and is held at the Coconino County Detention Facility.  KAFF

  • Flagstaff Bordertown Dormitory is starting the second year of its peer tutoring program — its academic advisor and peer tutoring coordinator said the whole-person approach benefits both tutors and tutees.  Arizona Daily Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • North San Francisco Street in Flagstaff will have single lane closures from Sept. 2—8 for paving and pavement marking. The project is part of the city’s Road Repair and Street Safety program and may include short term closures of intersections between West Cherry Avenue and West Columbus Avenue—drivers are urged to follow marked signs and expect delays.  KAFF

  • Yesterday, the Coconino Panthers football team opened its season at home against the Snowflake Lobos as coach Gary Cook’s squad aimed for a deep playoff run after a 6-4 finish last season. The team — led by returning star Ethan Jeffs and supported by rising talents — faced challenges from key departures while working to overcome close losses.  KAFF
