COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Flagstaff is asking neighbors to share input via an online survey open until Sept. 9 on a three-dimensional art feature to be built at the promontory on E Cedar Avenue and N West Street as part of the Spruce Wash Wedge Detention Project—feedback from residents will help guide the design put forth by artist team Haddad|Drugan, with further input planned when preliminary designs are ready in 2026.  KAFF

CRIME NEWS

  • A sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle near Bellemont when he observed packages of methamphetamine and a K9 unit later seized over a dozen pounds during the stop—marking a significant drug bust.  Arizona Daily Sun
  • Flagstaff Police are asking the community to help spread the word about convicted sex offender Jeremy Kanallakan — who is subject to community notification under state law — and note that he is not being actively pursued.  Flagscanner

  • Popular corridor trails at Grand Canyon reopened for hikers after a month-long closure caused by the Dragon Bravo Fire—Phantom Ranch will reopen in November.  Arizona Daily Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Hobbs renewed her call for an investigation into the Dragon Bravo Fire after a July report showed officials did not warn the public about its danger, and she met with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum on July 23—she said Arizonans need clear answers to stop similar events. The fire grew to be one of the largest in state history, destroying landmarks and disrupting local businesses.  KAFF

HEALTH NEWS

  • Northern Arizona Healthcare named former Flagstaff Mayor Coral Evans and NAU’s College of Nursing Dean Janina Johnson to its board of directors — Evans served as mayor from 2016 to 2020 and Johnson has led the college since early 2024.  KAFF

  • In 2014, a local volunteer who completed the Master Gardener class cared for the roses at the Olivia White Hospice Garden and learned practical guidelines for garden care—lessons that continue to influence gardening practices.
