COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local officials warned residents of Forest Lakes that an evacuation may be needed if conditions worsen—residents should be ready and watch for more updates.  Arizona Daily Sun
  • Today, the City of Flagstaff asks residents to complete an online survey through Sept. 9 so local artists can shape a new 3D art project at the East Cedar Avenue and North West Street promontory as part of the Spruce Wash Wedge Detention Project. The artist team—Haddad|Drugan—will use the input to develop initial concepts and will seek more community views in 2026.  Flagscanner

CRIME NEWS

  • Flagstaff Police are searching for a missing woman—about 5 feet tall and 140 pounds with white braided hair who uses a cane—last seen near the 1000 block of North Fourth Street in blue shirt and blue pants; anyone with information should call 928-774-1414 immediately.  Flagscanner
  • Flagstaff police pulled over a vehicle on I-40 and discovered 12.5 pounds of meth, arresting the driver.  Flagscanner

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northern Arizona University hosted a workshop for Native American educators to learn how to include computer science in their lessons—Project Let's Talk Code helped them update their teaching methods.  Arizona Daily Sun

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Arizona's mountain areas face increased monsoon showers and scattered thunderstorms this week that may spread by the weekend+meteorologist Lee Born advises hikers and bikers to start early or postpone outdoor activities to avoid dangerous storm conditions.  AZ Family
  • On Wednesday, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office put several homes in Forest Lakes on pre-evacuation status due to the Sheep Springs Fire—burning 27 acres near Highway 260 between mileposts 286 and 291 and affecting Canyon Point Campground. Fire crews from Washington Fire were moved to fight the blaze while large airtankers worked to control the fire and fire restrictions remained on Tonto National Forest.  AZ Family

  • Flagstaff launched a new bond-funded Community Homebuyer Assistance Program — it will give down payment assistance loans to homebuyers making up to 150% of the area median income.  Arizona Daily Sun
