CULTURE NEWS

  • Flagstaff Music Festival returns to Heritage Square on Sept. 20. The free event will raise funds to award scholarships for young local musicians.  Arizona Daily Sun
  • Flagstaff artist and Pine Forest graduate LaniKai Weis unveiled a new mural for the early-education area at Pine Forest today—bringing vibrant art to inspire young learners.  Arizona Daily Sun

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Kaibab National Forest is reopening several areas today after the White Sage Fire was fully suppressed, while areas north and west of Highway 89 remain available except for roads heavily damaged by the fire. Visitors must follow Stage 2 fire restrictions—smoking is banned and motorized vehicles are not allowed on forest roads to keep everyone safe.  KAFF
  • Firefighters say the Dragon Bravo Fire near the North Rim has burned 144,991 acres and is 62% contained while parts of the Kaibab National Forest reopen today. The U.S. Forest Service reopened roads linking Jacob Lake and Timp Point as crews begin repair work on the land.  AZ Family

  • Coconino County attorney and sheriff will host a presentation on fraud and identity theft at Murdoch Community Center on Sept 8. The session will give local residents key tips to spot and avoid scams.  Arizona Daily Sun

SPORTS NEWS

  • The NAU women’s soccer team lost 2-1 to Nevada on Aug. 17 at Lumberjack Stadium—Nevada scored two late goals after NAU led at halftime. Senior forward Morgan Caslin scored her first collegiate goal and the team will play UC San Diego on Aug. 21 before facing Phoenix College on Aug. 24.  KAFF
