ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Summit fire department responded to an injury accident on North US Highway 89 (Sunset Crater exit) at approximately 8:45 a.m. (local time) on August 8 when a truck pulling a toy hauler collided with a Honda sedan. Flagscanner
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Fifteen individuals were arrested on August 8 for offenses including disorderly conduct, reckless assault, DUI and drug-related charges—records show arrests occurred from just after midnight through the evening. Flagscanner
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Katie Hobbs visited Flagstaff Fire Department Station 1 on Aug. 8 to discuss plans for a new Wildfire Training Center with Mayor Becky Daggett and Wildland Fire Battalion Chief Paul Oltrogge, and she announced that Arizona allocated another $30 million for wildfire prevention and training center construction—making it the state’s first government-operated wildland fire training center. - ➤ Coconino County announced that Tim Carter is the new Director of Emergency Management, effective retroactively from Aug. 1 after 13 years of service as a specialist and assistant director. He will lead a team of six professionals (at the Emergency Operations Center) to enhance community preparedness and safety. KAFF

- ➤ Northern Arizona University football is preparing for an upcoming season with second-year coach Brian Wright after last year’s playoff run, as the Lumberjacks—ranked No. 19 in the Stats Perform FCS Preseason Top 25 and practicing at 7,000 feet near the San Francisco Peaks—added new transfer players including captain Ty Pennington to boost their lineup.
