CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On Sunday, July 27, a 'Hell On Wheels' truck from PETA drove through downtown Flagstaff and played animal cries to show the pain animals feel during transport to slaughter. The truck drove along Route 66 and passed Proper Meats and Provisions — sparking discussions on animal treatment and encouraging some eateries to add more vegan options. KAFF
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Coconino National Forest is seeking volunteers to plant trees on San Francisco Peaks, with replanting efforts set to begin in August and last about one month — officials expect the work to help restore the area. Arizona Daily Sun
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Flagstaff said vehicular traffic will use the Fourth Street—Lockett Road roundabout starting Aug. 4 while crews finish sidewalk and utility work. The project is on schedule and is expected to be fully completed in the fall. KAFF
- ➤ Coconino County has formed an Unidentified Remains Task Force with experts from the Medical Examiner’s Office, Health and Human Services Department, Information Technology Department, Sheriff’s Office and County Attorney’s Office to solve cold cases and restore names to unidentified remains. The task force will use modern technology and national databases such as NamUs, CODIS and FGG to match remains with missing persons reports and will host DNA collection events to help families get answers. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Flagstaff Medical Center added a mobile MRI unit to boost imaging capacity—this followed requests from its radiology department and work that began in mid‑2024. The unit now enhances patient care as the facility meets growing imaging needs. Arizona Daily Sun
