ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Dragon Bravo Fire, sparked by lightning on July 4, grew to over 11,000 acres after crews did not get an incident meteorologist until Monday—firefighters have since worked to contain the blaze while more than 70 structures were lost. State leaders have called for a federal review of the fire management approach as 600 firefighters continue their efforts. AZ Family
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Native radio stations serving tribal communities in Arizona warned they could lose about 60% of their funding if Congress implements a proposed $1.1 billion cut in public broadcasting, which may reduce government-funded support by roughly $954,000 for several stations. This loss would risk cutting off emergency alerts and native language programming—leaving rural areas without a vital communication lifeline. AZ Family
- ➤ Coconino County earned national recognition for ranking among the top 10 US counties under 150,000 in digital innovation during the 2025 Digital Counties Survey—its sixth straight year of success. - ➤ The City of Flagstaff announced it will propose new rates and fees for public parking in the downtown area and City Council will consider the changes at a meeting on Tuesday, September 2 at 3:00 p.m.—the first reading is then and a second reading will occur on Tuesday, September 16 at 3:00 p.m.—at City Council Chambers at 211 W. - ➤ City officials in Flagstaff celebrated Tuesday the full opening of the decades-long Beulah/University Realignment—featuring an extension, roundabout and pedestrian underpass beneath Milton Road. Arizona Daily Sun
- ➤ Flagstaff drivers face temporary road closures as the City’s annual road safety program begins on Monday, July 21—northbound Beulah Blvd will be closed at Forest Meadows for pavement patching ahead of an August overlay; additional roads including Kaspar Dr & Lynch Ave, Switzer Canyon Dr, San Francisco St, and Timberline Rd will have lane restrictions until July 25. - ➤ The City of Flagstaff announced that northbound Beulah Boulevard at Forest Meadows Street will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 21 for pavement patching — southbound lanes will remain open. The city also will perform pavement and concrete work next week on Kaspar Drive and Lynch Ave from July 21 to 25, on Switzer Canyon Drive on July 22, on San Francisco Street on July 23 and 24, and on Timberline Road on July 25 as part of its Road Repair and Street Safety Program before a full pavement overlay in August.
