CRIME NEWS

  • Two men were arrested after a road rage incident in downtown Flagstaff today at 3:30 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a weapons violation that involved a firearm discharge, booking 28-year-old Kavan Thomas King (Camp Verde) on disorderly conduct with a weapon and three counts of endangerment and 37-year-old Gian Ginero Rosano on reckless driving without any injuries reported as the investigation continues.  KAFF

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Flagstaff received $4 million from the state to build a new wildland fire training facility that will help train firefighters and coordinate responses with other agencies. The city set aside $650 thousand for design while Governor Katie Hobbs said the project will improve safety for communities in northern Arizona.  KAFF
  • Flagstaff Shelter Services got an Arizona Housing Fund grant — to build The Lantern — with construction set to finish in October.  Arizona Daily Sun
  • The City of Flagstaff announced that the Beulah/University Realignment Project has reached substantial completion and that all roads and the pedestrian underpass will open to the public by the end of July 15—crews will finish cleanup operations in the coming weeks. The project included building a new roundabout at Beulah Boulevard and University Drive, constructing a pedestrian underpass, and making infrastructure improvements.  KAFF

HEALTH NEWS

  • A person died of the plague at Flagstaff Medical Center—Northern Arizona Healthcare reported the death.  Arizona Daily Sun
  • A northern Arizona resident died from pneumonic plague in a Flagstaff emergency room Friday (the first such death in nearly 20 years in Coconino County) as health officials study the case and remind residents to avoid contact with wild animals.  AZ Family
