Good morning, Flagstaff.

Forest restoration work began on July 9 at Lowell Observatory and Observatory Mesa to thin 530 acres of ponderosa pines and reduce wildfire risk in northwest Flagstaff.

The Greater Flagstaff Forests Partnership is managing the six-month project funded with $816,779 from multiple sources (Coconino County, the City, Lowell Observatory, and SRP).

Flagstaff City Council on July 8 approved an appeal of the denial on a Certificate of Economic Hardship for 19 W Birch Avenue, allowing demolition after a 15-day appeal period so a new Hilton Graduate Hotel and parking garage can be developed (with design standards set for downtown).

Flagstaff Fire Chief Mark Gaillard was named the 2025 Leader of the Year for his work improving emergency response and supporting firefighters — city officials recognized his commitment during challenging times.

The honor reflects his strong dedication to public safety and community resilience.
