ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Flagstaff Police and EMS responded to a minor injury accident yesterday at Humphreys and Cherry — a Silver Honda CRV collided with another Honda, injuring at least one person.  Flagscanner

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Zaxbys, a Georgia-based chain known for its chicken tenders and sauces, nears the debut of its first Arizona location in the Valley and is exploring a Flagstaff expansion; the chain will reach 1,000 locations by the end of 2025 — a milestone that highlights its growth plans.  Arizona Daily Sun

CRIME NEWS

  • On June 27 a reported live grenade partly buried in mud was found along Lake Mary's shoreline, prompting the Coconino County Sheriff's Office and Flagstaff Police bomb squad to secure and safely detonate it; no injuries were reported and officials continue investigating how the grenade ended up there.  Flagscanner

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northern Arizona University’s Honors Native American Summer Research Program recognized seven Indigenous students yesterday — with speakers Gov. Katie Hobbs and former Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez — as the program, funded by a $25,000 annual donation from the Arizona Lottery, supports research that ties Indigenous heritage to exercise science.  AZ Family

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Flagstaff’s Schultz Creek Drainage Improvements Project, finished in Fall 2024, was honored with three awards from the American Public Works Association, American Concrete Pipe Association, and the Arizona Department of Transportation. The project—a first use of a specialty pre-cast box culvert—reduced flash flood and wildfire risks by protecting over 200 homes, a local elementary school, and key facilities.  Flagscanner
  • The Coconino County Board of Supervisors approved a $443,009,427 budget for fiscal year 2026 on June 24; the plan runs from July 1 to June 30 and includes a $15 million stability fund to soften cuts if federal money is reduced.
