ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fire broke out at a 100 by 100 log slash pile behind the Restoration Forest Products building in Bellemont at 5:15 a.m. today — firefighters from Camp Navajo, Flagstaff FD, and Ponderosa Fire are containing the blaze while smoke may affect visibility on Interstate 40 and Historic Route 66 — and officials report no damage to the building with little risk to the nearby forest or community. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Summit FD and USFS responded to reports of a wildland fire along eastbound I-40 near Milepost 215 today — initial crews found a small fire smoldering in brush, and later CCSO confirmed at least four fires along the railroad tracks. BNSF halted a train after officials reported that a petroleum car may have sparked the fires — responders then focused on protecting structures in Velvet Valley. Flagscanner
