COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 80 free events — including outdoor movies, live music, yoga and activities for kids — will be held downtown Flagstaff from today until Sept. 28. The schedule also features First Friday ArtWalks to provide local residents with a range of summer activities.  Arizona Daily Sun

  • Flagstaff Fire and EMS responded to an injured person at SuperMat Laundromat on E Route 66 at 12:17 p.m. on May 23rd—no further details were available.  Flagscanner

  • Anamarie Drinen, a local FHS graduate, said she enjoys learning and sharing knowledge in her after-school activities — she continues to seek new opportunities to grow and help others learn.  Arizona Daily Sun

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At 2:11 p.m. today the Flagstaff Fire Department sent multiple engines to a wildland fire report south of I-40 near Rio De Flag—access is best near Lone Tree and Zuni and officials note that similar fires have previously started from transient camps.  Flagscanner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Flagstaff officials introduced neighborhood-based evacuation zones about two years ago to help residents prepare for wildfires, extreme weather, and other emergencies—an effort meant to enhance citywide safety.  Arizona Daily Sun

  • Northern Arizona University women’s basketball coach Laura Dinkins finalized her staff for the upcoming season by hiring Bryan Camacho as associate head coach, Nick Milan as assistant coach/recruiting coordinator, Dajae Black as assistant coach, and Kristyna Jeskeova as director of basketball operations/chief of staff + Camacho brings 20 years of coaching experience + the new hires add expertise from their backgrounds at schools like Long Beach State and Truman State.  KAFF
