CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Flagstaff Police Department is asking residents for help with a community notification for convicted sex offender Archie Paul Begay — the department confirms he is not wanted at this time. Flagscanner
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality announced its statewide Arizona Water Keepers campaign in partnership with Leave No Trace to promote responsible recreation by urging visitors to bring a trash bag, check for algal blooms, plan for waste disposal, and stay on marked trails. The agency noted its work near Oak Creek reduced E. coli levels by 54 percent over five years (a success it hopes to expand statewide). KAFF
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Arizona Department of Transportation and City of Flagstaff announced that parts of Cedar Avenue will be fully closed from May 27 to August 4 for two projects. One project will shut down the Cedar Avenue/Lockett Road intersection for a new roundabout and the other will close the stretch between Grandview Drive and Monte Vista Drive—detour routes will be available for drivers, pedestrians, and bus riders—while Linda Vista Drive stays open. - ➤ Coconino County offices, Health services and courts will be closed on May 26 for Memorial Day while an Animal Services officer is available from 7 a.m. — 5:30 p.m. and parks remain open — with reminders for fire safety. Flagscanner
- ➤ The City of Flagstaff announced that two sections of Cedar Avenue will be fully closed from May 27 through August 4 due to major construction projects aimed at improving safety and flood control. The Fourth/Lockett Roundabout Project will replace the signalized intersection at Fourth Street and Cedar Ave—Lockett Road while the Spruce Wash Flood Mitigation Project will build a new storm drain between Grandview Drive and Monte Vista Drive. - ➤ The Coconino County Manager’s office warned Flagstaff residents about a scam email that falsely charges an application review fee for a Conditional Use Permit—legitimate County messages come only from an @coconino.az.gov address.
