COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Flagstaff will hold a community meeting on Thursday, May 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Aquaplex (1702 N Fourth St) to gather input on the future Montalvo STEM Education Community Center and its design process.  City of Flagstaff

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A train engine overheated and caught fire near Fimbrez Estates in west Flagstaff on Thursday morning—firefighters brought the blaze under control while smoke impacts were expected, the Flagstaff Fire Department reported.  Arizona Daily Sun

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities are investigating an arson-caused wildland fire near the airport—firefighters are working to contain the blaze—and officials will provide updates as the situation unfolds.  Flagscanner
  • Flagstaff Police—working with local, state and federal agencies including the FBI and ATF—executed arrest warrants over the past two days as part of a six-month investigation into street-level drug trafficking in Flagstaff and Coconino County.  Flagscanner

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mason Takeuchi, a standout student who explored many academic and extracurricular interests, will graduate this evening as a member of BASIS Flagstaff’s Class of 2025—marking a milestone in his education.  Arizona Daily Sun

HEALTH NEWS

  • Flagstaff Medical Center said it will start renovating the Emergency Department on June 2 and it will stay open while work continues. The project—adding new flooring, paint and LED lighting—will boost patient care and finish in phases by January 2026.  KAFF

SPORTS NEWS

  • NAU Men’s Basketball announced today that former St. John Bosco guard Chris Komin is joining the team after helping his high school win the Division I California Interscholastic Federation State Championship in 2024 — he averaged 11.1 points per game and is known for his three-point shooting from Cypress.  KAFF
  • Northern Arizona University Football signed Tak Tateoka yesterday; he played 11 games at the University of St. Thomas-Minnesota (with 10 touchdowns and five interceptions on 202 pass attempts while also punting) and will join the Lumberjacks as a junior from Waukesha, Wisconsin.  KAFF
