- ➤ Local entrepreneur Jay Jones and his company TechGenie won $30,000 at the Innovate Green Pitch Competition on April 12 at the Moonshot Campus in Flagstaff for their patent-pending vertical food-growing system—designed to use 90% less water than traditional methods—and will use the funds to purchase machinery for scaling production. - ➤ Officials scheduled pavement repairs on Sawmill Road with full overnight closures from 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 6 to 6 a.m. Wednesday, May 7 and from 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 7 to 6 a.m. Thursday, May 8—motorists must use detour routes on Seville Ln, Barrow Ave, Cambridge Ln, and Kensington Dr. A portion of Barrow Ave will serve as a staging area from May 5 to May 8. - ➤ The EPA pulled a $1M grant from Flagstaff that funded wildfire resilience hubs, emergency supplies and clean air systems, forcing cuts to education programs and four jobs as the busy fire season nears. City officials are appealing the decision and expect an answer in up to 6 months. AZ Family
