ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Today at 11:27 a.m., Flagstaff Fire Department, Flagstaff Police, and USFS responded to a wildfire on McMillan Mesa where active flames were seen plus officers warned residents and noted a suspect—a scruffy white male in shorts with a black dog—leaving the scene; later, additional engines arrived to manage the Mesa Fire burning roughly one acre with moderate growth potential while no structures are threatened.  Flagscanner

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Flagstaff business TechGenie, led by Jay Jones, won the 2025 Innovate Green Challenge held on April 12 at the Moonshot Flagstaff Campus and earned $30,000 for its patent-pending vertical food-growing system that uses 90% less water than traditional farming. The prize funds will be used to purchase equipment and scale production — a move that underlines the city's support for sustainable local innovation.  City of Flagstaff

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Coconino County Parks and Recreation will offer eight weeks of summer camps for kids ages 8 to 15 (each week will have a unique theme) to keep campers engaged (the camps will run this summer).  Arizona Daily Sun

  • The Senate passed a bill banning encampments on college campuses to stop temporary shelters from being set up after protests and incidents at local universities, including NAU.   • On May 1, Flagstaff residents gathered at City Hall for a peaceful May Day Strong protest supporting workers, immigrants, and civil rights.
