- ➤ Today, the Flagstaff Nestlé Purina factory team announced a $30,000 donation to support local groups—$20,000 for United Way to expand its KinderCamp program with three new classrooms serving 1,500 children and $10,000 for High Country Humane Society to upgrade its outdoor cat patio for better safety. - ➤ Flagstaff Shelter Services is nearly finished with a new 104-bed facility at a former Motel 6 that will offer mental and physical health services and help people find work and safe housing. The new shelter—created to ease nightly overflows from an existing site serving 170 people and 70 in overflow—will open early summer and accept essential donations. AZ Family

- ➤ Flagstaff will celebrate International Dark Sky Week from April 21 to 27 with stargazing, live music and more events. The city, known as the first International Dark Sky City — a title earned by protecting its night skies — will host outdoor activities for locals and visitors. Arizona Daily Sun
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A prescribed burn at Flagstaff Ranger District near Continental/Country Club burned 503 acres at Campbell Mesa yesterday to lower hazardous fuels and protect homes. An 840-acre burn at Horseshoe Maxwell Springs is happening today to reduce wildfire risk with light smoke impacting nearby roads and neighborhoods — some trails will be closed during the burn. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting Monday, April 21, the City of Flagstaff and Eagle Mountain Construction will begin building a new arch culvert on the north side of Cedar Avenue between Grandview Drive and Monte Vista Drive — work that replaces an old box culvert with one that increases capacity for post-wildfire flows. Traffic will be routed using lane shifts — pedestrians and bicyclists will maintain access and motorists are asked to follow marked detours during construction. Flagscanner
- ➤ The City of Flagstaff announced that construction on the north half of a new arch culvert on Cedar Avenue between Grandview Drive and Monte Vista Drive will begin on April 21. The project will increase capacity to divert post-wildfire flows in Spruce Wash while traffic shifts keep roads open for driving and maintain bicycle and pedestrian routes. KAFF
