CRIME NEWS

  • Last night, the North Star Task Force arrested 28 people in a six-month operation against child sex trafficking—nineteen on misdemeanor prostitution charges and nine on felony charges such as luring minors and sexual exploitation—showing that many of those arrested were local residents and that child exploitation remains a serious concern.  KAFF

EDUCATION NEWS

  • NAU Athletics named former Lumberjack Laura Dinkins as the new head coach of the women’s basketball team, noting her 15 years of Division I experience and previous coaching at NAU. Her introductory press conference is set for April 10 at Parsons Family Auditorium — open to the public — where she will share her vision for the program.  KAFF

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City of Flagstaff is celebrating Water Awareness Month in April with events offering free water efficiency consultations, supplies, and a raffle for a high efficiency toilet to help residents conserve water. The schedule includes an event held on April 1 at City Hall (already completed) and upcoming gatherings at local spots (including the Orpheum Theater on April 4) through April 29.  City of Flagstaff

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Developers broke ground on Liv Sky Cottages rental housing at Timber Sky today — the project will include 203 rental homes on 32 acres. Ten percent of the units are reserved for households earning less than the area median income.  Arizona Daily Sun

  • Laura Dinkins was named the 13th head coach of the Northern Arizona University women's basketball team Tuesday—interim Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Uri Farkas made the announcement.  Arizona Daily Sun
  • Optimum ended its contract and dropped the MLB Diamondbacks channel — leaving some northern Arizona fans without access to games as customers learned about the change on bills due in late January or February.  Arizona Daily Sun
