ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A multi-vehicle pileup on Interstate 40 near Flagstaff resulted in one fatality—emergency crews are investigating the cause and urging drivers to use caution on the road.  Flagscanner

CRIME NEWS

  • Flagstaff Police arrested 31-year-old Jose Zepeda on March 12 after officers checked on a 13-year-old on the eastside and found she was abused—detectives used social media and cell phone records to identify him and charged him with four counts of sex conduct with a minor and aggravated assault and endangerment.  Flagscanner

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lowell Observatory was named one of TIME Magazine’s ‘World’s 100 Greatest Places’—a nod to its famous discovery of Pluto and its open-air planetarium with heated seats. The observatory was also recognized by Newsweek as the nation’s best science museum on March 6.  KAFF

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Flagstaff K-12 schools are working on new measures to secure their campuses—an audit in December revealed gaps in emergency plans prompting officials to review safety procedures for students.  Arizona Daily Sun

  • The City of Flagstaff launched Connect Flagstaff, a new community platform that lets residents take surveys and share feedback on projects like the Lone Tree Overpass and Spruce Wash flood mitigation — registration offers a way to receive personalized updates and select topics of interest.   • Federal officials may end leases on over 400 non-core properties including five National Park Service sites in Arizona—one serving as a key headquarters for Flagstaff area national monuments.
