About this event

Bird Walk | Garland Prairie

Join us for a morning of birding at Garland Prairie, where winter brings excellent opportunities to spot raptors soaring over the open grasslands. We'll search for eagles, hawks, falcons, and harriers, along with a variety of sparrows and the possibility of a longspur.

Date: Saturday, November 28, 2026 Time: 8:00 AM–approximately 1:00 PM Location: Garland Prairie, west of Flagstaff

Meeting Point: Meet at 8:00 AM in the Bashas' parking lot on Woodlands Village Boulevard in Flagstaff. Carpooling will be available, with driving arrangements made at the meeting point.

Directions: From Flagstaff, we'll travel approximately 20 miles west on I-40 to Exit 178 before continuing to Garland Prairie.

What to Bring: Bring water, snacks, binoculars, a camera, and a spotting scope if you have one. Wear sturdy shoes and warm, weather-appropriate clothing, as conditions can be cold and windy in the open grasslands.

About the Location: Garland Prairie's expansive grasslands and open skies make it a wonderful destination for winter raptor watching. Bald and Golden Eagles, Northern Harriers, Red-tailed Hawks, Ferruginous Hawks, Zone-tailed Hawks, and Rough-legged Hawks have all been observed in the area. Falcons and accipiters are also possibilities. We'll also look for a variety of sparrows, with the chance of spotting a longspur.

Register so we can notify you directly of any updates, including cancellations, delays, or weather-related changes. Registration is not mandatory to attend.
